What We Treat

So what does CBT Plus treat?mind
To help with an overview of the types of difficulties that Psychologists of CBT Plus treat, we have based these categories on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th Edition, Text Revision (DSM-IV-TR). This is a manual published by the American Psychiatric Association (APA) that includes all currently recognized mental health disorders for both children and adults. Mental Health Professionals use this manual when working with clients, in order to better understand their difficulties and to develop potential treatment.

We have presented this classification system to allow you to have an overview over the range of mental health issues. However, we would discourage ‘self-diagnosis’. Once you read about a mental health presentation that strikes a chord, it would be very prudent to clarify and confirm the diagnosis with a professional. Treatment can be made more targeted and straightforward with a confirmed and accepted diagnosis.

Don’t forget that the diagnosis is only the starting point into a more relaxed and fulfilling life, with the help of the right treatment. We would also like to emphasise that any successful psychological intervention will always be holistic and strength based in its approach, instead of solely targeting ‘disorders’. The diagnosis itself is only an explanation of what IS – a psychologist will help you to learn the HOW TO skills, in order to turn it into something better.
